Voluntary Action Leeds releases Neighbourhood Matching Year 3 report

Jun 17, 2026 | News

Voluntary Action Leeds has released a new report evaluating the third and final year of the Neighbourhood Matching Project in Leeds.

Neighbourhood Matching is a programme of volunteer-led projects across different areas of the city. These projects are co-designed, led and delivered by volunteers in the community.

Each volunteer group receives £10 of funding for every hour that a volunteer commits to their project, with this funding then used by the volunteers to boost their project in the best way they see fit (e.g. buying equipment, printing flyers, hiring space).

Funding for the programme was created by Leeds City Council’s ABCD (Asset-based Community Development) team via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. This was then funded through UK Government and sits under the Service Transformation, Adults and Health Directorate.

The aim of this funding is to provide volunteers with a means make long-lasting changes to their projects and ultimately to their communities, allowing them to use their own skills and experience to lead on projects in their areas. Volunteer groups meanwhile are supported by organisations from the Leeds Community Anchor Network, which each ‘Anchor organisations’ supporting the volunter groups in their respective areas of Leeds.

More information about how the Neighbourhood Matching Project works can be found on the Doing Good Leeds website.

This latest report provides an evaluation of the third and final year of Neighbourhood Matching, with key successes and key learning for future projects highlighted. The report also includes quotes from volunteers and from local organisations involved in the project.

The full report can be found on the Research and Evaluation page of Doing Good Leeds. If you have any questions, queries or feedback about the report, please get in touch with Connor Craig-Jackson on connor.craig-jackson@val.org.uk.
